Reunited, and it feels so good/Reunited ’cause we understood… Whenever I see anything about the Bennifer — that’s J-Lo and Ben Affleck — reunion, this is the song going round in my head. Even if you’re too young to remember the Peaches & Herb classic, it’s totally understandable why this feels so good. I just love love, and, as I always say, never give up on love — no matter what age you are. We say we get wiser with age and, for most of us, that usually means kissing a few frogs before we meet a prince or princess. We also know that going back to an ex can be tough, seeing as friends probably know all the details of the first break-up, which can be awks. But Ben isn’t exactly a frog. I met him many years ago at the premiere of his movie The Town, and he is hot, hot, HOT! I’m sure you’ve seen the meme of Blanche Devereaux in The Golden Girls and J-Lo — who is now the same age as the classic character — showing just how much 50 has changed over the past three decades or so. And, on that note, see The Talk, right, for tips on how to look your best in your golden-glow years.
Hate that! Your can of fake tan/hairspray/deodorant won’t work — probably due to a clogged-up nozzle, which happens when the product dries and sticks to the exit hole in the sprayer. The solution? Hold the nozzle under warm running water, then remove the residue with a tissue, or use a toothpick to scrape off any debris lodged in the hole.

“If only I’d been born rich instead of beautiful,” I often say to myself, especially when googling things I can’t afford, like this Valentino Beauty Go-Clutch Face Powder and Minirosso Lipstick bundle, above, €177, only available at Selfridges at the mo — but I feel I won’t be the only one popping it on my wish list, so we’ll have it here soon enough.
It includes a refillable powder and travel lipstick encased in a red and gold compact with a chain to wrap around the wrist. (“It’d want to, for that price,” I can hear you say as I type this.) Use the powder on its own for a natural look, or on top of your foundation as a finishing powder. The Minirosso lipstick has a pointed tip as a tool to line lips before filling in the colour, too. Now, none of your 1950s housewife powdering your nose discreetly in the bathroom…
this is much more of a

Newsflash, hot flash… read all about it! The “change”, the midlife crisis — whatever you call menopause, it’s time to talk about it. Menopause and perimenopause (the years leading up to the main event) can have a huge impact on our lives.
One side effect of menopause is how it can weaken our skin. Irish skin expert Eavanna Breen, of Akina Beauty and Laser Clinic on Dublin’s Leeson Street, knows how to look after the skin during menopause. She advises that we invest in a really good hyaluronic acid, as this hydrates the skin by drawing moisture to the surface.
Wearing sunscreen daily is also a must, no matter the weather, as menopause can make our skin more susceptible to UV rays. Vichy Capital Soleil UV-Age Daily SPF 50, above, €22, is the perfect product: a high-protection facial SPF 50+ with a wonderfully fluid texture that feels fresh on the skin, it helps protect our complexion from the damages of UV radiation and pollution, while targeting existing signs of photo-ageing.
Vichy Neovadiol Rose Platinium Eyes, above, €29, is another product perfect for ageing elegantly, as it works to reduce the dark circles and wrinkles that can come with menopausal skin. It’s made with a blend of natural actives to instantly de-puff and smooth wrinkles around the eyes. Mineral water, calcium and caffeine are all in the mix to help revive the eye area and restore elasticity — which, sad to say, can get lost in menopause. The joys! But at least we can be well prepared.
“There are 30 recognised menopause symptoms and each woman is estimated to experience, on average, nine of these symptoms — equating to 18 million possible combinations,”according to Health & Her, a brand on a mission to soften the blow of common menopausal symptoms. Its supplement and sleep-aid range works alongside a specialised menopause app (see healthandher.com) to keep things under control. The Health & Her Perimenopause Supplement, above, €25, contains sage to support well-being, and wild yam and red clover to help with hot flushes and night sweats. Find the full range at pharmacies nationwide. Always consult your GP before taking supplements.
